1984 Ghostbusters

This film was a sensation.
It launched an unexpected franchise; it had a hit song and it had a logo that everyone wore on a t-shirt...and still do.
If you see that logo, you know what it is, that is a sign of a true phenomenon.

If you only watch one movie to do with the 80's, it has to be this.

So, apart from the phenomenon, is it any good? The answer is yes, it is great!
It was originally slated to star John Belushi, and Dan Aykroyd wrote it with him in mind. His sad death meant a re-cast. Bill Murray took his role and Belushi was remembered in the depiction of the green slimy ghost, since called Slimer. Another cast member would have been Eddie Murphy, who left the project to work on Beverly Hills Cop. However, the cast is perfect, and ably supported by Sigourney Weaver who clearly has fun, and Rick Moranis, who excels as the nerd Louis, who becomes the key master to weaver's gate keeper. Nothing sexual about that!

The song was a hit; the movie was a hit; the merch was a hit and then they made a sequel, which was not.

This stands on its own as a wonderful movie, full of drama, comedy, magic and great performances. It could be the best movie to come out of SNL, and is certainly the most successful.

From a budget of about $30m, it took a massive $282m and that figure rises day to day. It is a true cultural phenomenon.
